We are having an extension and a rewire. The sparkey has said that as we have a solid floor on part of the old house between the new position of the fuse box and the extension it is fine to drop wires from the ceiling vertically for sockets. I am unsure about this as I always thought they needed to be come up through the floor and then vertically up. Please can someone advise on the regulations.

yes absolutely fine to drop from the ceiling.. how else are you going to do it with a solid concrete floor?

check the WIKI section for info on Part-P, and for info on safe wiring zones..

As long as they are vertical in line with an accessory it is ok.
This is known as a Safe zone.
