I have a two gang switch controlling one pendant type light in my dining room.

switch operates as : off/off = light off
on/on = light on
off/on (vice versa) = light on

no problem i thought it's probably got a common live wired to both switches. (But why ?)

when i undid the faceplate to change to a single switch - i found somthing i don't understand - There's a microchip in there for some reason and a couple of extra wires (indeed looks like there is a common live)

can anybody tell me what this is ? - why the microchip

thanks

Not a capacitor is it?

Some people put these on switches causing nuisence noise. Usually on switches that control inductive loads such as pumps, relays, transformers etc.

Are you a terrorist and they are on to you?

Some kind of remote control?
