Hi all

Please could anyone advise if the way the installer has left the protruding wire is a problem.

Secondly, the oven is not flush, the box on the right protrudes slightly preventing the oven from sitting properly. Can these boxes be moved in any location, e.g. in the red areas. Does the gas pipe affect it or does it need to be a certain distance from the floor or the hob that sits just above.

Thanks for your time.

It would seem the cooker connection unit is fed from else where, so should be easy to move. The sockets should be where the plug is in free air, or the item it feeds should have cooling fans, as fuses generate heat, likely can be moved either up or down depending if feed cable goes up or down, the very thin plugs were discontinued when the finger protection sleeves were added to the live pins, I would simply plug in else where.

The new grey cable looks as if it may be too low rated, is there a size embossed on the cable? Have you a rating for the oven?

The dirty white cable seems to feed that on the right, so it should be possible to move it down, maybe even up. All it would need is the surface back box refixed in a new position.

Thanks for your responses. The oven (Zanussi Zohna7x1) is 16amp rated. The corresponding fuse in the fusebox is a 16 amp (NHXB16).
From what I can see on the wire, it is embossed with 6242Y - 2x2.5+1.5mm2. Do you think this is too low rated?

Ps, do you see any issue with the earth wire on show from the back of the oven?

Thanks

All good.

No.

It is good practice to have the CPC(earth wire) longer than the others so that it is the last to be disconnected should the cable be pulled out.

The cable is OK for that, better would have been a flexible.

The earth wire shouldn't be showing outside, but a minor problem.

With a bit of thought, the installer could have avoided both issues..

Thanks for your help, greatly appreciate your time and knowledge.

Have a good one!

The earth wire shouldn't be sticking out the back of the oven like that.

Typical trait of a bad installer, the type that you pay extra for if you have a new oven delivered.

Would be worth checking the connections are all tight and making good contact.

Are you certain it's not the copper pipe that's in the way?

Most ovens are designed to allow a flushed in socket and plug, and a flushed in cooker outlet, to fit behind the oven, in fact it would be a very poor oven design not to allow that.

It's a surface box I think, judging by how what is the original white cable entering it. In fact the grey cable, box and outlet could possibly be done away with completely and assuming it is long enough - the white cable taken straight to the back of the oven.

Is it?

That might explain it.

Yes, like the idea of doing away with the cooker outlet as you suggest.

Also, if the cooker outlet is surface mounted, it appears it would be easy to move it, without 'de-wiring' it.

It's not.

The cover is not fitted.
The cover IS fitted. The cover is that black plate with a picture of a screwdriver on it.

The cover is removed by prising it off with a screwdriver.

Absolute crap really, but there you go.

Ok. Still looks like there should be something else over it.
