i was assured it was tested before laying the tiles but i wouldn't be surprised if it got damaged after that. we were doing up the house on a tight budget and, yes, you get what you pay for - a false economy in the end. we got the builders off 'rated tradesman' website as were new to the area and unfortunately didn't have any personal recommendations and the local firms were well beyond affordable...
we employed the electrician separately (had all the uk qualifications etc) to be sure it was done right - which of course meant more of a coordination headache (also why it's harder to go back to anyone now!)
generally we just about 'got away with it' aside from this issue and the relatively poor finishes i'm spending every weekend rectifying!
