Wonder if you can help. Moved into a new house a couple of years ago and now noticed that the external front door paint is peeling of. It appears that the builders have used gloss on the doors that look like a wood but appear to be of metal construction. Looking to paint the doors soon so looking for some best practice. Is it OK to rubdown the door then apply typical external gloss, or would I need to apply undercoat etc

Thanks for your help

All gloss is pretty much the same in that they are oil based, external glosses have a few extra ingriedients to make them a bit more duarble. The door you mention may not be steel. Any gloss will stay on it no problem. If it has a wood grain to it, it will more than likely be a plastic
( UVPC) door. That may be the cause of the paint peeling. I have never seen a metal dopr with a wood grain finish.
