i am moving a socket down the wall and i have bought 5mm wire to do this. When i have opened the original cover the wire is 3mm. Am I ok to join these two together?

buy some 2.5mm Twin and earth and do it right.

dont use two different sizes of cable, yes it will hold the load, but u might have loose connections.

dont know where your getting 5mm cable???

Thanks for reply.

Just another question, what about joining 2.5mm to 3mm?

thats fine, i re-read your post i think you've measured 3mm instead of 2.5mm

that is fine. only take your new cable off existing socket if there are two cables there already. thats me assumming its a ring main!

i shall disregard the 5mm.

I know it is 2.5mm as i have bought it new.

As for the 3mm cable it is slightly bigger than the 2.5mm and when measured the cross diameter is 3mm.

Will the 2.5mm be ok joined with the 3mm
