Hello

I have a new build and my builder tells me that the windows they have installed aren't covered by FENSA. Instead they will be signed off and approval held by the local council. My query is what comeback do I have if I'm not happy with the quality of the finished and installed windows? Any or am I stuffed?

FENSA and quality of windows aren't related. FENSA or builidng regulations (doesn't matter which) ensures the windows comply with current building regs and gets them noted on the local authority register. Your windows could be rubbish quality but still comply with regulations.

It is completely normal to have windows in a new house signed off by the council as part of the rest of the house application. Infact to have them signed off by Fensa would be unusual.

Your warranty for the windows and their standard of fitting is with the builder anyway not with Building Control or Fensa even if they were approved with Fensa.

Whether members of a particular club or not, for poor work the comeback is always with the contractor who did the work

More so, FENSA certification does not apply to new build, and only to replacement windows and doors
