i have recently bought a 1997 fiesta auto with an 1250 engine it has done 44000 miles and when at idle and especially when the car is still cold and the choke is still on the car tries to drag itself along when in drive it causes stalling if i can,t get it in neutral quick enough someone said it is the torque converter, why is this playing up and would it be very much to get it fixed.i have owned micra and rover auto,s with no problem before, could this be particular to fiesta,s. thanks

Auto cars in the D position at idle do tend to drag them selve`s along at idle.

Whenever the car is in D, you have to have the brake on, unless you want to move! ;) As kingboy said, automatics tend to drag themselves along a bit when idling at the lights etc. To stop it, stick it in neutral.

Best not to allow them to drag with your foot on the brake, it wears the gearbox and brakes. Pop it into neutral if you're not going to be moving off.
