I have just had an extension and knocked several tiny rooms into one to create a kitchen breakfast room. The floors are all concrete and quite uneven. I am planning to lay natural slate tiles on top, which are themselves very uneven thicknesses. It has been suggested that I use this to my advantage and lay the thinnest tiles on the highest part of the floor, and the thickest tiles on the lowest point.

My problem is how to find the high and low points on the floor to enable me to do this. Any ideas please?

a lazer level is ideal but a long straight edge layed along different parts of the floor will find the highest point.
