Just moved into a new 'duplex' flat of which the entrance is on the 1st floor of a 3 storey building. The 1st floor consists of the entrance door which leads direct into the living area, and this is connected via a doorway to the kitchen. The 2nd floor (top floor of building) has 2 bedrooms and the bathroom. All internal doorways except the bathroom are fitted with fire doors (with closers), this includes the door between the living area and kitchen.

My question is are all these fire doors necessary to comply with building regs? My plan is to remove the kitchen door completely and just leave the doorway to give a more open plan feel. I'd also like to remove the door closers on the bedroom doors if this didn't contravene any regs., would they still count as fire doors without the closers???

cheers

They are there either because of regs OR safety. You cant remove them.
