Fitting a Surrey flange

First thing. Many thanks for the advise so far, very much appreciated.

Just about to fit a surrey flange for my shower pump. It's looks easy enough. But a couple questions before I do.

Before removing the old hot water connection. Other than turning off the hot/cold water supplies is there anything else that needs 'turning' off'? I guess not :)

Below is an image of the surrey flange. Will I need to fit a washer where the flange connects to the cylinder or will a good wrap of PTFE tape on the thread suffice?

Also. With the compression joints. Will I need to PTFE tape the threads or not?

Consider a Warix - often easier and better.
