You can get specialist block work fixings that don’t require plugs but these are fairly large & I’m not sure if they would be suitable for what your doing. You could use through fixings, they have an integral wall plug so you just drill through, knock in the plug & tighten the screw; I've used these to line the wall of a single brick porch with foil backed board which arn't suitable for dot & dab but if it’s an internal block wall with no possibility of damp, I would dot & dab it tight as jb suggest; although I would use Drywall Adhesive rather than Bonding.

Thanks for replying, i did think of dot and dab but i have never done that sort of thing , Richard c sorry to go deep , but what make and size would those screw and plug fixings be , basically i am screwing lengths about 400mm wide by 2.4m high to fill in a hole where a wall came out cheers .

I would still advise dot & dab is the best solution, you need to work fairly quickly but it’s straight forward. For that size board, just mix up half a bucket of adhesive & scoop similar sized blobs of adhesive onto the wall & press the plasterboard onto the adhesive, keeping the board flat with the edge of a straight piece of wood as you go; if you’ve mixed it right, it will grab & hold the board almost immediately. Space the adhesive blobs around 250mm both vertically & horizontally & put an extra blob in the middle all around the outside to give additional support to the edge of the board. I use a large wooden kitchen spoon to scoop the adhesive which I find gives just about the right size blob for close fitting.

If you still prefer fixings use something like this but B&Q stock something similar:

I would use either 8 x 50mm or even 8 x 60mm spaced every 200mm vertically & horizontally.

Thankyou Richard c , i now have a some what clear veiw of what i am doing your info has been spot on cheers .
