My bathroom light has just given up after flickering for a few days. It is a 3 bulb halogen type fitting. I have also noticed the landing lights (Also Halogen) are flickering slightly.

I have quite a lot of bulbs in the house can you have too many for the circuit?

My CU has only one switch for the lights for all the house is this too many?

Thanks. :D

6 amps = approx1380 w so add up your bulbs and about 20%for any spot transformers
not scientific but will give you an idea ;)

Here are all my lights

1 hall light (ES)

2 front room wall lights

1 main 3 bulb (ES) light fitting

3 kitchen lights each with 4 spots

2 dining room wall lights (ES)

2 outside halogens

1 2nd living room main light 3 (ES) bulbs

1 stairs/Landing light 8 spots

1 bedroom light 3 (ES) bulbs

1 bedroom light 1 normal bulb

There are more lights to be added to the loft when its done.

Is this too many?

Thanks.

you need to add together the wattage of all your bulbs

your 2 outside hallogens could be using most of your allocation if they are 500w each and half if they are 350weach

with 15 lamps your talking 90w average but as i say its up to you to add up all the wattages to get your level of consumption

You should get some CFLs (Energy Saving Lamps). Apart from saving you money on electricity, they last for years and are tolerant of supply voltage fluctuations.

Do they sell energy saving spots? I wouldnt mind them if they did.

What sort of spots do you have?

Oh yea the landing lights have stopped flickering now one of the bulbs has blown. Do they flicker before they go?

Thanks.

Do they flicker just before they blow and should they have a slightly blackened look to them inside the bulb?

Thanks.

mine blow with a bright flash. no flickering.

flickering indicates a loose contact, which can also cause heat buildup to the point the lamp blows. 2 birds one stone. ;)

Could easily be in XS of 3kW lighting there, not inc loft.
