Hello,

What type of wood do I need to replace the plinth (wooden floor) that sits on the floor at the bottom of the door frame please???

Ours is broken and we are having carpets and lino laid soon and I neeed to replace and varnish it.

Thanks

Steve

I think you mean a threshold? This is a strip of wood about as thick as a carpet, that stops a gap under the door?

You just need a hardwood that matches or tones with your flooring. A little darker is better than lighter. A place that sells hardwood floors would have something suitable. You might find it at a woodyard but it is an unusually small piece that you need. Take up the old one and use it as a pattern for size and shape. if the old one left a big gap under the door you can use a slightly thicker one.

If I were you I would screw it into position rather than using nails, to avoid the risk of splitting.

On the side where you have carpet, a square edge is good. If on the other side you have hard flooring, you want it tapered to avoid a trip hazard. You can buy them like that, or plane it down.

Thanks John,

The old threshold has been binned by all accounts, we had some plumbers in and they broke and binned it apparently!!!

I'll take your advise and look for a bit of hardwood.

Thanks again

Steve
