Hi,

I noticed earlier today that the engine warning light on my Ford Ka was on. I rang the RAC for advice and they said I should drive to a garage and get it checked out.

The garage told me that that in order to diagnose the fault they would need to do a scan on the engine and that the RAC should be able to do this for free so advised me to call them again.

When I got back in the car the warning light extinguished and has remained off since. I'm wondering why this might be and if the car is now OK to drive or whether it still needs checking out - the rac are refusing to look at it as the car is still 'drivable'.

Any advice would be much appreciated...

To find out what has caused the fault the car will need to be plugged into the appropriate computer (could well be an OBD2 port).

Find a Ford indy and ask them to plug it in it will be cheaper.

But personally first I would just keep driving the car and see if it comes back. Could be a sensor temporarily dumped an incorrect value into the ECU or something. If it keeps happening take it in.

alternatively if the car is still under warranty just take it back to Ford.
