The Haynes manual says torque these up in TWO stages to the specified torque, but gives no torque values?

Anyone have an idea.

If it wasn't for the fact that they say to do it in two stages, I wouldn't be that bothered and just do it by feel.

Thanks.

If doing it by seat of my pants, then a figure like that would feel about right - it is only a rubber gasket after all.

Strange why Haynes reckon it is a 2 stage process.

Cheers,

Yeah, dont always trust the book of lies!
If you've done the job on any other vehicle before you know what the score is!
Probably say in 2 stages so you dont get it put on cocked! Ie, finger tight the lot, then torque (pinch up with a 1/4 ratchet and socket) to manufacturers specified settings!

You are right.

The Haynes manual is often cursed at - and I know how to curse. "Remove this bit..." Damn well didn't need to be removed. Common sense is the best tool.

I have found out that the 2 stages are 2nm and then 7nm

As you say, finger tighten and then equal torque to about what would feel right for a rubber gasket all round.

Maybe worth knowing for a really tricky piece of work.
