That's because the world has changed, fool.
Germany has taken in massive numbers of unsuitable migrants and is handing EU passports out to them. As has Sweden. Both now suffering serious crime waves. France has endless cardboard cities full of illegals and massive estates full of failed immigrants who are now also EU citizens. Just to name three.
That we are taking in more than before is a choice of the government HERE. We can vote them out for failing to honour their election manifesto pledge. Being in the EU, we would have no say, except as a gesture through the rubber stamping, fake democracy that is the European Parliament.

The fact we didn't, and certainly don't now, was not down to the EU
