Evening all, looking for a bit of advice on an up and coming project. Our house is a town house with a with a car port under the living room. The front panel of the house on the ground floor is single skin wooden and doesnt do a great deal of good keeping the heat in.
The plan is to vapour proof the panel on the outside then insulate it and sheath with wbp ply.
However it seems a shame to go to all that work and not deal with the floor level while im there. Ive got abasic understanding of how foundation insulation works but i need some pointer on this so the basic plan goes like this...
Dig 2-3ft trench (is this deep enough to cause issues with proper backfill etc?) clean off the foundation and bond insulation to it. Cover/wrap insulation with ??? to keep it dry and backfill the trench.
I dont want to have to render the lower section of the wall so i think id sheath the same as the rest with a damp proof joint between the upper and lower panels.
Does that sound like a good or bad idea? any pointers on insulation type for below ground and trench depth without getting into serious construction work?
Thanks in advance,
Harry
