Please help.

Can anyone provide some advice on what to do with the gap between the stairs (Banister) and ceiling. It currently looks like this....

I was aiming to clean and sand it down but what's next?

Thanks for any help you can offer...

You can either leave it with a sharp plastered corner, or decorate it with moulding.* (You'll want to cut away the end of that coving and return mitre it onto the wall)

Thanks for that. If we went with the sharp plastered corner what should we do with the coving? I don't want it to look a mess from above either.

You could do this and infill the gap with some wood
