Gaps under new windows

Previous owners had double glazed windows put in a few years ago, I don't know if they did it themselves but there are some pretty big gaps underneath a few of them (see pic). at it's widest this is 20mm and about 30mm deep - I'm a complete newbie so not sure how/what I should fill it with? Just wanting to tidy it up and look nice.

Not sure the picture helps but I would look at using upvc skirting board at the required height to cover the gap. Should be in keeping???

A full picture would help us understand the problem more
 
im not sure what we are looking at -I guess from the lift its a sliding box sash window.
it looks badly fitted and not finished

I cant tell if its a full window or the original boxes left in place

A pic from further back would be better and outside

I think they've fitted a new VS in the original box, quick, easy and cheaper as theres little or no making good to do, they could have at least foamed the voids and trimed over
