First post, so hi to everyone.

I've moved into my new house a few months ago and have been wondering what to do with the ugly gas heater in the kitchen (pictured below). Does anyone know how easy it would be have this replaced with a smaller, more modern one, or taken out completely?

Thanks!

Its a simple job for a CORGI to cap off the gas supply to your "fire"!

Then you can remove the old fire.

Few people seem to need any heating in the kitchen if the property has normal central heating.

A new fire would be about £100-£300 plus about £90 to fit it ( perhaps ).

Thanks for the suggestions - it backs onto the boiler itself will that cause any problems?

Personally, i'd like to just rip the thing out and be done with it, but we don't have a radiator in the kitchen, so it may not be the best idea until the winter comes and we find how out how cold it actually gets!

Is the back boiler still in use ? If so ure kinda stuck unless u upgrade the boiler/system i'm afraid.

EDIT - sorry i may have read that wrong. I assume u mean a back boiler anyway. ?

Looks like a very old Gloworm capricorn 246 bbu .And boiler cannot be used without the fire being attached .So unfortunately has to stay or have a new boiler relocated elswhere in the house. Under certain cicumstances it could be repaced with another back boiler with a half decent loooking fire attached. Installer will advise you on what is allowed.
