I would like to have a combi installed for dhw only at present. The cold and hot water pipes for dhw are in the correct location and the power is already there. There is no CH circuit and won't be for a year or so. So would require someone to hang the boiler in my loft (loft is prepared) fit the flue through my roof. and connect the condensate. I have opened up my "stink" pipe in the loft and a strap on boss is fitted.

I would also need a gas pipe from my meter run through to it but this can be done without any floorboard lifting.

Can you give me rough ideas of cost to do this? I'm not after a quote because that would be impossible without seeing my house but what is a rough guide?

I'm asking here because sometimes I'm nervous getting people in for quotes due to bad experiences in the past so if you could help out I would be very grateful.

Cheers,

Andy

oh right didn't realise it did that. Well i can route the pipes for a rad. any ideas of rough cost of original post?

Anyone?

Depends which boiler you have some of them have a large enough internal bypass not to require a radiator to dump water into... My own combi has never heated a rad after water demand and have never seen a recent baxi combi do it either.

It would just be good practice to link in a nice big radiator on a simple CH circuit, just to keep the boiler happy until you can do the rest of the install.

Needed to do just that once so asked a few manufacturers - at the time Ariston said no problem, just add a bit of pipe for the filling loop!

To fit the boiler is difficult though because it might be impossible to commission fully in the normal way. But to do it assuming it's allowed, in a loft, with a new gas pipe - several hundred labour only. Plus something for the guy who has to go up on the roof - I use a roofer.

Most boilers with a built in bypass do not need any heating circuit to be fitted but check with the manufacturer first to be sure the warrantee is not infringed.

I dont see the proposed make or model of boiler mentioned.

For a typical combi if the water circuits are already in the loft then we would charge our usual fee of £740 plus whatever extra a roofer might charge. The last one I did the owner hired a roof ladder and being reasonably agile I fitted the flue for it myself.

That price assumes the boiler and flue are supplied and also the materials for the gas supply but we would be responsible for water treatment.

AGILE. I take seeing as you always say anyone who is not corgi registered should not touch any part of a boiler that is covered by corgi you are using a corgi registerd roofer to do the flue.

 really ok do they get some one how can do it in ?

or would hey just leave the boiler with no flue or would they do it?

By a lack of reply i will assume it is do as Agile says not as Agile does

I would always do the flue assembly and connections myself ( being CORGI registered ) but the "lead slate" or seal to the tiles can be done by a competent roofer.

I specialise in repairing boilers and have only fitted relatively few and have never used a roofer as, being fairly agile, I have always been able to do the roofing work myself.

Perhaps when I get too old to clamber about on roofs then I will have to use a roofer.
