Gears clunky

My peugeot partner van has 60k on the clock and it runs fine, but the gears are very clunky, not smooth at all.

Is this a sign of age and needs replacement or can i do something about it ?

Does a gear box have its own separate oil supply which needs topping up like the engine ? If so could this be the problem ?

Crunchy gears are a first sign of clutch issues really, and on these vehicles the clutch cable has a fairly tortuous route and does tend to sieze up a bit.
Just for info, the gearbox has its own oil, 'sealed for life' but it is replaceable.
If there aren't any leaks, the oil level will be fine.
John :)
