My builder has just laid a drainpipe for stormwater but i noticed he didn't put any gravel in the trench. Is this ok?

All the how to sites say they have to be bedded in so I was a bit worried and wanted advice before asking him about it.

Drains should be back-filled with pea gravel irrespective of what they carry, it's good practice.
