I have failed to get decent pressure from my new shower unit comprising of Grohe thermostatic unit served by gravity fed hot and cold feed; I have pumped the outlet from the therm unit to the shower head, but pressure is not good.

So the question is...................

Can I feed the thermostatic unit with mains cold pressure(maybe reduced by a tap if necessary) and pump the hot water feed/supply with my single input/output pump.(ie pump from the tank to the thermo unit)..if I can somehow regulate the pressure to be approx the same at the hot and cold feed sides of the thermo unit?

I know this may be unconventional, but what problem could I encounter?

Yours in hope

Cheers

why don't you just buy an ordinary shower pump

I thought this was a shower pump...says Monsoon on it..and manufactured by those well known pump people...forgoten the name

Thanks JohnD

Question of £ basically...if i can make this one work well why not..save me £200 or whatever they cost

Question still stands thou....is my proposed method realistic and feasable?

Thanks for your interest.

You can't regulate pressure with a tap/stopcock only flow rate. You can use a pressure regulating valve but by the time you've messed about with this or piping the single in after H/C is mixed, it would be cheaper to just buy a Showermate 1.4bar Twin.

Have now plumbed shower as follows:cold supply is T'ed off supply to ballcock in header tank=great cold pressure to my cold inlet Grohe manifold
Hot supply is effectively from gravity fed hot water cylinder via a single input/output Turner pump...the feed to the pump comes from the a T junction off the 22mm hot water supply to the bath tap(about 12" below the tap)

Problem is when I switch mixer on, the pump doesn't run...but MAGICALLY..if I leave mixer on and set at ~38deg C I can kick start the pump by opening the bath tap to let the water run for about 2s then shutting the tap..this AMAZINGLY kick starts the pump, and I can have the best shower of my life.

So how do I resolve the problem of this "fawlty towers shower"?

How can I get the pump to work OK without needing the "kick start"

Yours desperately
