So tonight the power went off the the heating system. Put a new fuse in the spur and it blew again.

Took off the contol panel and switched spur back on. All ok. Put control panel back and fuse blew!

So off to the shops. Fitted new control display (exact replacement) and fuse blew again

So had a look at pump and motorised valve. Took cover off motorised valve and a spring fell out!. Piece that holds the spring in place has snapped off.

Anyway, i unclipped valve from pipe work (Drayton MA1) and tried turning the spindle on pipework by hand. There was a small amount of movement either way which made pipes clunk quite loudly.

So im none the wiser. The motorised valve wants replacing as the one spring has broken off but is this the likely cause of the problem?

Hope someone can shed some light

Thanks

Disconnect all the components of the heating system.
Add them in one at a time pump, boil, motorised valve.
My guess would be the pump is at fault.

Cheers for quick response.

Come to think of it a while back there was some kind of weird swishing water noises coming from the boiler /pump area.

Would this be the pump making this noise. It certainly didnt sound normal

Probably could have been doing it if the motorised valve was stuck and the pump was pumping against it.

Start by disconnecting the pump easy job and switch it all on again. It shouldn't blow the fuse although keep the boiler off at the thermostat. If it stays on switch the boiler on for a short. The boiler will soon kettle with no circulation going on though.

The motorised valve is off the pipework.

Turned the power back on but the boiler isnt doing anything. Is this because the vales off im guessing?

If you have disconnected it from the wiring then the boiler won't come on.
If it is still connected to the wiring something is wrong because the system would still work.

Its still connected just not clipped onto the pipework.

Tried pushing microswitch down on the motorised valve and nothing :(

It sounds like you have broken the motor valve and so its not switching the power to the boiler and pump.

When you have fixed that you will probably blow the fuse again if the pump is faulty.

Power it from a fly lead and plug fused at 3A and see what it does!

If fuse blows the add a pump to your shopping list!

Power the pump from a 3amp plug?

When we switched the sytstem back on without the motorised valve attached to the pipework, the pump was making a low humming noise.
