After thought (when discussing things with my partner, who does the fitting ;))
Why not try the adhesive in a corner (if possible) without sealing the floor? He has installed some floors on 'black' residue this way without any problems, only just remember that the adhesive will take a little longer to bond.

Thank you again.

I did lay some tiles in the kitchen around 6 months ago, well I put some self leveling down, just the water mix one from wicks, well it did spil out onto the black floot I have been talking about, and it does seem to have stuck nicely.

So a self leveling compound might be an option, but someone has said a latex one is better, although more pricy, Ball Stopgap Green Bag, was said to be good? it is mixed with Ball 114 (latex). a 25KG bag goes around 5.5m, at just 3mm (all I would need).

Hi there,

How did you get on?

I missed the special offer on the Oak flooring at Costco, it's now £27 per pack, but have, almost, decided to go ahead and buy it to floor our bedroom. I too was worried about installation and have found contrary information about gluing to floor or floating.

I think the easiest option, as a competent DIYer, is to have it floating. So I have a couple of questions.

The concrete floor is flat and stable. What woould be the best underlay/dpm to use and where can I purchase it.

The room is 12 ft x 11 ft, what gap should be left around the edge for expansion?

Best glue for fixing boards together, and is the glue put along the whole of the tongue?

Any other advice gratefully received.

Thanks

Combi product like Timbermate Excell or Ergolay, sheds or specialised wooden flooring shops/companies (9 out of 10 times cheaper on accessories)

Rule of thumb with solid oak flooring 3mm gap per meter wide = 11 - 13 mm

PAVC wood glue, see sheds or flooring shops. Put glue in the whole of the groove, not just some drips.
