i connected cable to my cooker took the cover off the box on the wall and it has the 3 wires red,black and g&y there is no holes to put the cables in. i dont understand this. the fitting looks old :( :( :(

there are probably terminal grippers that you poke the wires into, upwards, which are opened by slackening three large screws.
 
regarding how to wire it just bring the cable from the cooker through the cord grip and into the same terminals as the cable from the wall.

You need the plate on the back to hold the terminals in, surely you can find a screw that fits from somewhere.

if you mean the brown plastic plate then yes you do need it. If the screw goes into the white plastic moulding then a "self tapping" screw or possibly a chipboard screw will hold it. You might find the same size in a discardd plug.

If you haven't got a jar of old screws then you can take the remaining one to your hardware store and get one the same length and thickness. Get yourself a jar for odd screws, every handyman has one on the shed shelf ;)


If you get in real trouble, you can buy a new cooker connector plate for a few pounds. If you get the chance, have one in two pieces (where the metal part with the terminals screws into the back-box first, and the white plastic cover is separate)
