high pitched tapety noise on 08 diesel mondeo

Hi guys.
A work mates mondeo as suddenly started to develop an high pitched tapety noise in his engine. There is no loss of power & the noise rises & falls with the engine revs.
I'm hoping Someone can shed some light on a possibe cause.

Sounds like a dry tappet ...............

Try an oil treatment (thick oil additive) hopefully the noise will decrease or it will eventually need looking at. One can should be enough?

Preheat the container in hot water before trying to pour it into the engine.

We have an old Audi loves a tap when cold, disappears when hot, but its heading for 40.

Worn or damaged auxiliary belts can make some unusual noises too.

My colleges initial thought was a Pulley Bearing or Belt, maybe he was on the right track.
At least he now has a couple of things to check out.

Take the aux belt off, and give engine a quick run. Will help identify if it's belt or anything that it drives or not
