hi all
History - hw wasn't heating up as much, called a plumber. He noticed things were wired up wrong, put it right, then boiler showed up a fault. Plumber left us in a situ where hw would heat only when ch was on! He said the prob could be clock face or new valve.
Since then the downstairs radiators stopped working and on Sunday the whole system stopped working.
So we replaced the pump, checked 3 way valve which is fine. Ch and boiler all working but no hw! We way valve switched straight to ch when we fired the system back up - we had both ch and hw on but it went straight to ch not mixed!
So what could be the cause? Could it be the clock face not telling the valve to heat water?

Any advice much appreciated! Thanks in advance

I don't really understand this.

Put something right but it still does not work properly.

How can that be right?

Was he paid?

Tony

The cylinder stat is set at 50

The guy didn't get paid! He went off saying he would order parts!! Hubby fitted the pump today. All working fine apart from no hw :(

The hot water should operate without the 3 way valve, wiring wise.
I suspect a faulty programmer or cylinder stat. Nothing else.
Get another engineer in.

Jeff is there anyway of finding out if it's the cylinder stat or programmer? Hubby is pretty good at plumbing so we'd like to try and tackle ourselves but it's got him stumped!

Have a look at the Honeywell wiring diagram for Y plan systems, the wiring is much simpler than it looks. There is some useful diagrams that explain the operation here.

If you post a clear photo of your wiring centre and the wiring in your 'clock face' we should soon be able to tell you if it's a wiring fault. What happens If you switch to HW only and turn the cylinder stat down so it clicks off? Does the pump and boiler start then?

If your plumber can't work out if it's the 'clock face' or the valve then tell him to get lost, as he will likely end up wasting your money replacing parts that don't need replacing.

Hi
If there is mains voltage to the grey wire on the motorised valve-when the hot water is demanding, you have a fault with either the programmer, cylinder stat or wiring. Nothing else. Simples X
