Hi,

I am currently building a patio. I have put 3-4 inches of hardcore and 3 inches of sand down and 5 pointing mortar to put the slabs on top. They are 2 foot square slabs.

The wife wants a hot tub, a small 4 person one I think. Would it be ok to put the hot tub directly onto the said patio? I think not but am unsure. What weight would the hot tub be when filled? Also, does it have to be 5 foot away from electrics even though the electrics are weatherproofed and outdoors?

Thanks,

Andy

You'd need a solid preferably steel mesh reinforced slab for the hot tub. They are heavy!

I have no idea what 5 pointing mortar is?

Also just to clarify you should go with 4 inches of hardcore and maximum of 2 inches of sand, 3 is too deep. i prefer to go for around 35mm

When i did my tub foundation it was quite basic. see page 1 of the link.

I think you'll be alright but it will depend on your soil conditions, i take it you dug down till you hit hard ground? Your tub can be calced roughly if you know the volume of water it holds. I.E 1,000 ltr is a tonne then add a couple hundred kilos for the tub itself. Good luck with the build!
