Hot water allways on

Hi this may seem a stupid question but why i was away on the weekend with friends one of them said there hot water is allways on. I asked if they had a combi and he said no.
He said he once had to turn hot water on an hour before too heat it up but now it is allways hot all day and night.
I guessed it might be 3 way port valve or cylinder might be turned on but to be honest i dont no ...
Please could you tell me what is up with it

sounds like a valve problem, if the boiler is firing without demand then this is most likely, very common for the valve body to stick and both the electrical and mechanical parts can be effected , then again could be as simple as his immersor is left on at his tank if he has 1 !!!

Perhaps he doesn't wash as much as he used to?
