Hi, I have never had any problems with my hot water but a few months back, we suddenly stopped getting hot water. We have an Ideal Mexico slimline RS40 & i noticed that the pilot light was not on. So i re-ignited it, & then the water was scalding hot. So I tried turning it down by following the instructions, but then found the hot water went cold again! I don't know what to set it at to make sure we have hot water all the time.

Also ever since i re-ignited the pilot light, our central heating is way too hot!

1 more thing- the pilot light is not always on- is this right??

Intermittent Pilot failure can be due to an ageing thermocouple or lack of boiler servicing.
HW temperature should be be controlled by the thermostat on the hw cylinder, or if there isn't one, the temperature knob on the boiler.
