This is how I did the loft light, & thought that you would like to see how I did it

  • 1) What I did was put up a 5ft Tube on the raffers (There was an old one here, but It had, had it)

    2) Put a single gang light switch on the landing for the loft light.

    3) Put up a 20A 4 Terminal JB, for the loft light switch cable, cable to the loft light, & the power in cable (for the loft light), to go into.

    4) (The Light on the Landing, used to have Five cables going into it. They were: Power in to upstairs lights, Power out to upstairs lights, Loft light power, Power to the light in my room, & and the switch cable for the landing light)
I Put all the cables, (but the switch cable for the landing light), into a 30A 3 Terminal JB, & ran a new piece of cable from the JB for the power to the landing light.

    5) I then ran another new piece of cable from the 30A JB, to the 20A JB, to power the loft light.

    6) I clipped up all the cables.

Below are some pictures of it

I get stick in my company for two things: the way I get through "AT RISK" stickers, and the way I get through 2 colours stickers. I always put one on every job. Chances are there is some mixed cable there and if not, it does for the future.

Yes I have affixed a warning label at the consumer unit to indicate the presence of 2 wiring colour versions.

P.S. I affixed a warning label at the consumer unit to indicate the presence of 2 wiring colour versions, in the old house when I put in a Loft Light & TV Amp(The TV Amp was connected to a 5a round pin socket, which was connected to a FCU with a 3Amp fuse) up the loft.

I hate the un-necessary use of joint boxes

The Joint Boxes were necessary, as the landing light used to have Five cables going in to it.

Also it was easyer & cheaper to put in a 4 Terminal Joint Box for the Loft Light, as it used less cable this way.

I have now added the picture of the switch for the Loft light, and here are some more pictures to do with the Loft light.

Here is a close up of the 30A Upstairs Lighting JB

Here is the access panel for the upstairs lighting JB, which I made when I put down the boards in the Loft

Are those different sized cables in the JB.

Sheath doesn't quite make the interior of the JB.

Copper hanging out of live terminal.

Why are there so many cables at this point?

No they are the same sized cables.

It does when the lid is on the JB

It was hard with so many cables to terminate, to get them all under the terminal screw

All these cables used to go in to one loop in rose on the landing.

The 5 cables are for:

Mains into Upstairs lights

Power out to Upstairs lights

Power to light in side bedroom

Power to end Landing light

Power to loft light
