Hi

The washing machine in my rented flat started making a funny noise when the drum span. A repairman was called and pulled out a bra wire. I never, ever wash bras in the machine, and this wire is too large to come out of one of mine! When I tried to explain to the landlord why I don't want to pay the bill, they said it can't possibly have been stuck in the machine for over a year so must be mine. I want to know if this is true? Please help!

They can be in there for years I've pulled them out and have been very rusty. They lay at the bottom of the drum and one heavy load can dislodge it so the end pokes up and then starts to scrape. You can tell by looking at the wire was the plastic on the end melted/ was it discoloured /was it well worn ,like being in water for a long time. Any signs of rust on it, was it buckled and twisted.

It could have been stuck there for ever and a day, but one thing is for sure, it would have been making a noise from time to time!
The noise comes from the wire catching the outer drum as the machine turns - sometimes the wire gets pushed into a position where it is quiet for a bit....but it always comes back to haunt.
Often enough you can grab the wire just before it disappears through the inner drum if your luck is in.
