The bad news: It is impossible to calculate the contents of your heating system.

The good news: there is no valid reason for having to do so.

The best news: You can just ask on this-here forum what the best way is of achieving what you want to do. You will get the professional opinion of a number of seasoned pro's, free and for nothing.

Rubbish Ben ;)

...Pipes are easy you can get charts, all you need is the lengths of each size.
...

Exactly my point, you will need to know how many meters of each size are buried under the floors, if not in the walls, and possibly crawl around in the loft, hoping it is not insulated with 7 cubic metres of rockwool.

5 'll get you 10 that the op does not have a practical reason for trying to find out; trying to find out if you need to spend an extra tenner on a second bottle of inhibitor does not count as a practical reason. :D

...Drain the system completely....

Now that's a trick that I am willing to pay handsomely for; in stead of filling and draining 8 times to get under 200 ppm, I just have to do it once. Should save me half a day on an install or powerflush.

Wrong! See my earlier post.

Wrong! Expansion vessel sizing!

Wrong, see my earlier reply.

Wrong, simply buying one that is surely big enough will cost you less than a tenner more than the smallest model that would possibly work. That would work out at doing all the graft for about 3 quid an hour; not economically viable.

You forgot your reason.

If you've got a water meter you can find the complete system volume if you are particularly bored.
Drain the system completely. Note the reading on the water meter. Fill the system. Note the second reading. Subtract the reading and you've got your volume. 1m3 is 1000 litres exactly.

Of course don't forget the 1 litre of inhibitor you have to add as well!.

Just make sure the wife doesn't go for a dump while you're doing it.

we emptied 4 radiators out of a hotel 700x 500 and rads were full and only filled a buckett half way in total, so depends on your rads these were som very old naff rads with a 15mm bar at top and 15mm bar at bottom and the rest was mesh POINTLESS
