Hi, im wanting to put a strip light up in the attic, there are no lights up there atm, I was going to change the upstairs landing switch for a double switch and use that for the attic. Where should the power for the attic light come from?? Should it come from the landing light then to the attic light then to the switch?
Anyhelp is greatfull.

Changing the switch fro a double will not help as there uis no neutral connection there.

Also, you will need to chase up the wall from the switch (pointless)
AND
you will often find that uyou/someone inadvertantly leaves the loft light on, and you will not notice, unless you also fit a neon on that switch. Also - pointless.

They way it is usually done is to take a cable from one of the light points in one of the upstairs room - below the loft - this will give you live, neutral and earth.
Run this to a new switch located just inside the loft hatch.
Then run another cable to your new light. Job done.

More work, but if the route that the upstairs lighting circuit takes from the CU is accessible (e.g. inside a cupboard), it's handy to have the loft lights on a different circuit to the upstairs one, in case you ever need to work on the latter, or in case a bulb blowing takes out the upstairs circuit while you're in the loft.
