My boiler shuts down after a few seconds (like a previous question). I looked on the 'how to' section and read that to stop the banging noises from the boiler and pipes I should descale. Should I use something like Fernox and should it be put into the expansion tank in the loft? Help please as winter is coming and I have no hot water (except for expensive immersion heater) and no heating. The plumber who came out recently changed the circuit board, programmer and fan but after a week or so the banging came back. I can't get this plumber to come out again.

my advise is to get on to the local trading standards and report this fellow as he did not do the job he should have done

If the system is badly restricted the stuff you buy in Wickes will probably not be good enough. I've had a big success with Fernox DS-40 but you must follow the instructions.
have a look here

Thanks for the advice and suggestion. I did think of reporting him as there other things which wern't right but he just blinded me with science and I gave up. I'm just putting it down to (an expensive) experience. Anyway being an independent, bl****y minded widow, I'm going to have a go myself at using the Fernox DS-40. Watch this space as I may very well have more questions on exactly how to drain the system!!
