How to identify wood?

I found some dirty old chunks of wood in the garage from years ago and decided to use a wheel on a grinder to take them down and to try to make make a bowl.

Reasonably happy with it (still a bit of fine sanding to be done), and now think I might knock a few up and let my mate sell them on Etsy where he has a shop.

But, I have no idea what the wood is and think I ought to list that for sale. At a push, I would guess pine, but I realised I have no idea how to identify types of wood.

Can anyone please tell me based on these pics? btw it's not that heavy and it makes a nice crisp high sound when rapped with knuckles.

Many thanks Woody. Just read up on it and it sounds like it, it was easy to work.

Don't think I'll find anymore of it knocking around though, which is a pity.
