How to make a washer!

I can hardly believe it myself, but after visiting 5 plumbing merchants, 2 ironmongers + B&Q/Wickes etc, I can't get a washer the right size.

Need one with total diameter 2.5 inches, and the hole in the middle diameter 1 inch to make a water-tight fit.

The guy in the biggest local plumb merchant suggested making one so my Q.s are 1) what's the best material and 2) what's the easiest/best way to cut the central hole?

I guess a rubber sheet, cut with a shape knife, using circular things as a guide

Googled alanite jointing but I'm none the wiser.

Asked the other half but apparently she threw the rubber sheets out when my problem cleared up......

Overflow tank connector ...3/4 bsp = 1 inch
