Thanks for quick replies have to apologies computer crashed have only just got up and running properly and read all of them, Was just checking on which of the plumbers that offer help on the site were from Hull no joke or punch line to follow .
We went to parts centre in Hull to get a part because our local branch lost the one they got in for me.
Anyhow my aprentice said that every trade van he saw was plumbers van.

I need to employ an installer this year and possibly a full time electrician, maybe I should put an advert in Hull Daily Mail (do you still have that? I was a student at The university of Hull in 1978).
For most jobs it is very hard to attract skilled workers to Scarborough. When I was in the nhs it was the staffed by people doing their best but people in bigger towns did better. That sounds terribly demeaning, but what the heck why shouldn't I say it now they have no hold over me. You just couldn't attract the correctly trained people to the area.
I have the sense that to get the right person/people for my business I either have to rob from one of my friendly competitors (we all get on well and I wouldn't really want to do that) or attract from outside. the learning curve for someone not up to the standard I require is too long, I've tried pushing and pulling people up that steep sloap and have come to the conclusion it's bette to get someone who has arrived at the required level or not bother at all. Folk who are not quite to standard don't make a contribution to fixed costs and overheads, you just end up providing jobs for no gain. What's the point in that?
