Hi, I would like to lay felt for warmth and noise but I have some rubber waffle that still has some life in it and I was hoping to put that over the top or underneath the felt for comfort and use staples or carpet tacks to hold both underlays firmly in place.

Would this be ok to do?

Or should this be in the DIY Disasters forum?

Thanks for any advice

The gripper won't grip the carpet properly as the carpet will sit too high.

Best to buy a really good quality felt or combo/felt underlay and dump the old stuff, it will be a false economy.

Hi crazydave, thanks for your advice. I decided to take it and lucky I did because I didn't realise the felt I was buying is 15mm thick

So the carpet is barely gripped down but it looks ok considering it was my first time fitting one. The super thick felt is great for bare feet and sound.

Thanks again!
