Problem with icon23t boiler. Stopped producing hot water part-way through filling bath. Will only produce hw when heating switched on and boiler actually firing to heat rads. Anybody familiar with problem and availability/cost of parts, or does this mean a new boiler? This one was fitted new in 1999.

It sounds as if the diverter has failed.

From what I recall this is a tricky one to work on compared with most boilers.

It will get worse if there is not space available on both sides of the boiler if its been boxed in.

If access was fully available we would charge about £106 to repair or £194 to replace in our local area but that does not take into account the extra difficulty in the case of your model.

In theory British Gas should do a fixed price repair for about £200.

Not to mention that as soon as you walk in the room with a spanner they leak from every orifice - nasty things suprised theres any left.

its a pig of a job. diaphragm can be replaced in situ , but its a real faff and creates a risk of a further leak, but worth it to avoid removing the complete DV. A fixed price repair wouldnt be a bad way to go.
