Ideal Standard Classic thermostat?

I imagine there is a fault on the thermostat of my Ideal Standard Classic boiler. When on max it was overheating and I have lowered the setting to 4 and it works OK.
That is obviously only a tempory measur till it is mended. What I don't understand is that where it used to click before closing down. Now it just closes down instantly.
Is there many cpmponents to the thermostat of which maybe only one needs replacing.
Please help.

I would get some help for the stat.
Not something you should fiddle with unless you are competent.

need the model aswell, some use conventional stats and some use sensors.

It is the Classic SE - FF. According to the literature it has a thermostat, thermostat control and thermistor.
