Hi I wonder if anyone can help, the immersion heater in my house has started tripping the rcd at the consumer panel every time it is switched on. The immersion is on its own 20A mcb and the rest of the system is fine the immersion is a Pullin 3kw does this sound as though the element or the thermostat is faulty? what electrical tests can I do to identify which one is causing the problem?

Element will have cracked inside the tank.
Replace the whole immersion (only about £20) if you have a bit of plumbing knowledge!

You will need an insulation tester and test between earth and neutral and earth and line.

If the element has seriously gone you will probably be able to test its duffness using a regular ohm meter.

(Duffness is the latest release by a lady Welsh popular artist)
