Hi Everyone, we are moving to a renovated apartment in an apartment building, this building have an old intercom system using 2 or 5 wires and audio only (some old L.T. Terraneo panel).
The current audio only intercom indoor unit in the apartment is a really old Thorn tube device, I wonder what are our modern options to replace this old tube device.

Does any 2/5 wire audio only device can be used? even those without a tube? if yes I would like to get some recommendations.

note that there is actually 6 wires coming out of the wall, don’t have no idea what each of them control.

Many thanks!

Must be some foreign word for it ……. Anyway you mean a handset ….is it in a block with other apartments if so you can’t fit any random handset ….it’s either a 2 wire system or a 4+1 ( 4 common plus a buzzer/ call wire )

I’ll share some photos tomorrow when I’m back at home, maybe you can help me understand exactly which type of system is it.

Do you know if there is hands free modern looking units instead of an handset? Because I can’t find any, I found some more stylish handsets units while Googeling but no hands free…

Attached are some photos of the current device.

I bought the Fermax 3431 56304 4+N VEO Universal Telephone Neutral from Amazon Germany.
I have connected the device and since I don't know the specs for the original device, I used the Urmet 1130 which looks really similar in terms of internal design as a mapping example for the wires.
Everything seems to work fine except from the hearing and speaking sounds which are really low volume in both ends.

I have attached some photos of the old device and the new device. maybe someone here can help me understand how to fix the volume issue (note that I have tried to adjust the screws which seems like something that controlling the volume options, but this didn't have any affect on the device).

Many thanks!

Try swopping the blue and the green around in the new handset ….looks like you have them the wrong way round
