Anyone had any experience with building an industrial unit?

I own my own small manufacturing business run from leasehold property, and I now have the chance of buying land and building my own unit.

I am very hands on, love doing deals with suppliers (have just bought a brand new Nissan electric forklift with 3yr free maintenance for under £10k today), have average DIY skills, understand some aspects of construction

BUT.............

I have no experience of building from scratch.

I anticipate building steal frame, insulated cladding, brick/block up to 2m high all round, a couple of roller doors - nothing fancy....unless anyone has better ideas.

Any tips/advice welcome.

Thanks

The steelwork could be made to suit your exact requirements.
There isnt a huge amount of work in a basic building, if size/ floor area is an issue, think about mezzanine floors, its much easier to work it in while fabricateing the main structure.

I think in your case it would be far easier for you to go to a company that will do the fabrication, groundwork, erection and cladding all themselves.
Have a chat with them, get exactly what you want. Tey will do or have done all the things like structural calcs, be able to advise you on your choice of composite panel cladding...

Depending on planning etc, try and work it so that the fabrication is done in winter, and all the site work throughout the summer. Its flies up much quicker that way! And all the boys will be happier!

If you were a bit closer, id give you a phone number...!
What sort of manufacturing do you do btw?
