Installation of a solid fuel fireplace?

We've just bought a combination solid fuel fireplace and have been recommened an installer who's really expensive, we've bought our own granite hearth which is being fitted by us and so is the plastering. Just wondering if anyone knows whether a fireplace instullation is possible for a builder to do and if so does anyone have any instructions??
