Hi- want to install a PIR for the external light which is currently mounted in a porch / covered area by front door. The current light has 3 cables coming, one being switch, as two are not used for the light - seems to be common earth and neutral and live (except switched live), I'm going to isloate these onto a termination block which should be OK.

The instructions for the PIR - and all other insturctions / warnings I have seen - recommend install a fused switch, I was thinking of doing this by putting an external IP56 fuse block mounted inside the porch area - is this OK / legal ? Then run power to this then to the PIR and then to the light.

As you are just modifying the circuit as against replacing it, I would'nt bother with the additional fuse

what is the wattage of the PIR going to be. If it's possible i would suggest spuring from the ring main into a Switched Fused Connection Unit. This will give you control to isolate it then.

I think you really need to consider the wattage of the PIR and think about your current setup. Will this PIR be more watts than the previous one.
