I am looking at getting a wall mounted electric fire for our living room. We had a back boiler behind a gas fire and had this removed so we are now left with a "hole in the wall". We were also left with the gas connection but this has been capped off and there is also the foil lining in the chimney.

Is it possible to brick this up as it is and then put a wall mounted electric fire in front or is this too dangerous? Otherwise i was thinking we could use plasterboard so the gas pipe can still be reached but i am not sure if this is strong enough for a wall mounted fire.

Advice would be appreciated.
Thx
